How we check your benefits

It starts when you reach out. We take it from there.

01

Call the office

Have your insurance card ready. Our patient coordinators take down your details and check your coverage, normally within 24 hours. Urgent appointments can often be rushed.

02

We review your benefits

We look up your deductible, co-pay, co-insurance and out-of-pocket maximum as they apply to pain management and interventional procedures.

03

We handle prior authorization

When your plan requires approval before a procedure, we send the request along with your clinical documentation. You don't fill anything out.

04

You get a cost estimate

Before a procedure, we tell you what to expect to pay based on your verified benefits. No surprise bills.

Prior authorization

Prior authorization is your insurer's way of approving treatment ahead of time. Not every plan requires it, and the rules differ between plans. When it's needed, our billing team submits the paperwork and supporting records.

If a claim is denied

Our billing team files an appeal with clinical documentation and follows up with your insurer. The goal is to get you as much coverage as your plan allows and keep your out-of-pocket costs down.

Referrals

HMO plans usually want a referral from your primary care physician before you see a specialist. Most PPO plans let you book directly. We'll explain what applies to you when we verify your benefits.

Work and car accident injuries

For work injuries, we accept Workers' Compensation claims and coordinate directly with your employer's insurance carrier.

If you were hurt in a car accident, we accept No-Fault auto insurance. Learn more about auto injury care.

Self-pay, HSA and FSA

Some treatments, including PRP therapy and prolotherapy, aren't covered by most plans. Most insurers treat them as elective or experimental and rarely approve them, so we offer self-pay pricing.

You can use a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for eligible pain management services, including procedures your insurance doesn't fully cover.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about insurance, referrals, authorizations and costs.

Does Queens Pain Clinic accept my insurance?

We accept Anthem BlueCross, Cigna, Medicare, Medicaid, UnitedHealthcare, Empire BlueCross, EmblemHealth, Healthfirst, Oxford Health, Fidelis Care, MetroPlus, Humana, Workers' Compensation, No-Fault auto insurance and most PPO plans. If your plan isn't on the list, call us and we'll check.

Do I need a referral to see a pain management specialist?

It depends on your plan. HMO plans generally require a referral from your primary care doctor. Most PPO plans let you book directly. We confirm what applies to you when we verify your benefits.

What is prior authorization, and will my plan require it?

It's an approval some insurers require before they'll pay for certain procedures. Whether your plan needs one depends on the plan and the treatment. Our billing team submits every request for you, including the clinical documentation.

How long does it take to verify my insurance?

Usually within 24 hours of getting your insurance card information. For urgent appointments, we can often speed that up.

Will I know what a procedure costs before it happens?

Yes. Once your benefits are verified, we give you an estimate of your expected out-of-pocket costs before the procedure.

Are PRP therapy and prolotherapy covered by insurance?

Generally not. Most plans consider them elective or experimental. We offer self-pay pricing, and you can pay with an HSA or FSA.

What happens if my insurance denies a claim?

Our billing team handles the appeal. We send supporting clinical documentation and follow up with your insurer to get you the most coverage possible and keep your out-of-pocket costs down.

Do you accept Workers' Compensation?

Yes, for work-related injuries. We coordinate directly with your employer's insurance carrier.

Can I use my HSA or FSA for pain management?

Yes. HSA and FSA funds can go toward eligible pain management services, including procedures that your insurance doesn't fully cover.
