What to Expect at Your First Pain Management Visit in Queens

Your first visit to Queens Pain Clinic in Rego Park usually takes 45 to 60 minutes. You fill out a health history, see a physician for a hands-on exam, and talk through what is causing your pain. X-rays are taken only if the doctor thinks they will help. You leave with a written treatment plan, and our team handles insurance authorizations.

We are an interventional pain practice at 9701 66th Ave in Rego Park. Our board-certified physicians have treated chronic and acute pain in Queens since 2004, and they favor minimally invasive options backed by evidence. We make the first appointment long on purpose, so we understand your pain before suggesting anything.

Your appointment, step by step

From check-in to your written care plan.

01

Check in

Arrive about 15 minutes early. The front desk greets you, confirms your insurance and collects any forms you have not finished.

02

Intake paperwork

The forms ask about your medical and family history, current medications, and where your pain is, how severe it is, how long you have had it, and what eases or worsens it. Fill them out at home to shorten your time in the waiting room.

03

X-rays, only if needed

Some new patients, or patients whose condition has changed a lot, have X-rays so the doctor can look at spinal alignment and structure. If your doctor sees no reason for imaging, it is not done.

04

Physical exam

Your physician checks your range of motion, presses on sore areas, and runs neurological and orthopedic tests. You may be asked to bend, move or lie down. The exam is not rushed.

05

Diagnosis and options

The doctor explains what is causing your pain and which treatment options apply, in plain language. You and your doctor decide on a plan together, based on your goals and comfort.

06

Your written care plan

Before you leave, you get a written care plan, and any follow-up visits or procedures go on the calendar. This can often be arranged the same day, and our team handles prior authorization paperwork with your insurer.

What to bring

Having these on hand lets your physician start from a complete picture.

Fill out your forms ahead of time

When the forms are done before you arrive, the doctor can review your history first, and your visit can focus on the exam and your plan instead of paperwork.

Mention everything

Tell us even what seems unrelated. Poor sleep, numbness, tingling, mood changes and family history can all help identify a cause, and a small detail may explain your other symptoms.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about your first visit.

What happens when I arrive for my first visit?

Check in at the front desk about 15 minutes early. Our team confirms your insurance and takes any forms you haven't finished, covering your medical and family history, current symptoms and lifestyle. Your physician reads them before the exam.

How long does the first visit take?

Most first visits run 45 to 60 minutes. That includes paperwork, the physical exam, imaging if you need it, and a conversation about your diagnosis and options. We don't rush new patients.

Will I need X-rays at my first visit?

Maybe. X-rays are ordered case by case, mostly for new patients or when your condition has changed. They help the doctor check spinal alignment and spot structural problems.

What does the physical exam involve?

The doctor may test your range of motion, press on painful spots, run neurological and orthopedic checks, and look at your posture. You may be asked to move, bend or lie down.

How is my treatment plan decided?

After the exam and a look at any imaging, the doctor explains your diagnosis and options in everyday language. You and your doctor then choose a plan that fits your goals, comfort level and daily life.

What paperwork will I fill out?

You'll give personal and insurance details, family medical history, current medications, past treatments and surgeries, and a description of your pain: where it is, how severe it is, how long it's lasted and what changes it.

Can I complete the intake forms before I arrive?

Yes, and we encourage it. Download the intake forms from our website and bring them completed. That cuts your waiting time and lets the doctor review your history ahead of time.

Will I know what happens next when I leave?

Yes. By the end of the visit you should have a diagnosis you understand and a written treatment plan. Follow-up visits or procedures can often be scheduled the same day.

Do I need a referral?

It depends on your insurance. Some HMO plans require a referral from your primary care physician. Check with your plan, or call us and we will help you find out.

What if my pain is from a car accident or a work injury?

Bring your claim number and the adjuster's contact details. We treat auto injuries and workers' compensation cases, and we handle the prior authorization paperwork.
